Bishops Waltham Cubs at District Cub Camp

At the beginning of term both Wolf and Diamond Cub Packs from 1st Bishops Waltham joined in the fun at the Meon Valley District Cub Camp. Cubs at playOver sixty Cubs from Bishops Waltham, Shedfield and Swanmore had an exciting weekend camping at Lyons Copse in Shedfield. The Cubs arrived carrying their heavy kit on Friday evening and had barely settled in to their hike tents before they were sent into the woods to take part in wide games in the increasingly dark night. A series of games saw the Cubs running, hiding and searching for leaders in the undergrowth until it was time for supper.

On Saturday the Cubs took part in a wide range of activities including pioneering (making a stave and rope chair to race around a course against the clock), Pioneeringmaking and flying kites and racing across a bouncy castle assault course. There was a climbing wall and archery which are always favourites with the Cubs. One popular activity this year was cooking omelettes in plastic bags over an open fire (apparently the results were delicious). A campfire rounded off a tiring but exhilarating day.

On Sunday morning the Cubs were set a series of tasks around the large campsite. These tasks included making catapults, signalling using semaphore and playing water bomb volleyball! Finally the Cubs, exhausted but happy, finished the camp with the traditional grand howl around the flagpole.
