Spring for Beavers
The Beavers’ commenced the Spring program of events with a games evening. Having already bid farewell to a number of Beavers as they continued their Scouting journey onto Cubs, the colonies welcomed bright new faces into their respective lodges. After a relaxed introduction that involved the Beavers’ sharing their Christmas festivity adventures, an evening of fun and games ensued.
Healthy Eating was next on the agenda, culinary dishes such as fruit salad and salad filled pitta bread being on the menu. Needless to say, the Beavers’ thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of preparing their healthy banquets and even more so eating their works of art.
The following week the focus of the evening’s events was the Faith Activity and Promise Challenge. Rowan led the proceedings with the Beavers’ re-enacting the ‘Good Samaritan’, giving them the opportunity to comment upon the various aspects of the events and to make their good turn promises. Who needs the BAFTA’s!
Trunks and swimming hat were the attire the following meeting as both colonies descended upon the Bishop’s Waltham Junior School Swimming Pool. As always, a smashing, splashing evening was had by all; many thanks to Bishop’s Waltham Community Swimming Staff/Lifeguards for allowing this to happen.
From swimming to tennis - next on the program was coaching generously provided by Alex Watley from Sports Development Agency. This gave all of the Beavers an opportunity to practice Forehand/Backhand/Rallies and even the Leaders to impersonate Boris Becker and the Williams sisters – Dream On!
The half term culminated with a Night Hike. The weather was challenging (monsoon conditions); off trekked the Colonies into the steady drizzle and mud. Not to be deterred by the inclement weather, assessing puddle depth with wellington boots and slaloming across the fields was the order of the evening. A well deserved Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows awaited the adventurers. Thankfully, half term followed, giving the Beavers’ the opportunity to shift the mud from their boots and uniforms before the next meeting!
