Emergency Communications at Bishops Waltham
JOTA and JOTI: 15th/16th October 2011
This Weekend! See 1st Bishop's Waltham Scouts JOTA and JOTI for more information and pictures taken during the weekend.
JOTA = Jamboree on the air. JOTA is an annual jamoboree during which Scouts and Guides all over the world speak to each other using amateur radio. Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared via the radio waves. The International theme for JOTA this year is “Peace, Environment and Natural Disasters”. We shall be taking part in this by running as much as possible of the radio equipment from portable supplies and without use of electric lighting for the weekend (think gas lamps, battery power and glow sticks!).
JOTI = Jamboree on the internet. JOTI allows Scouts and Guides all over the world make contact with each other using the Internet. It is a real Jamboree during which Scouting experiences are exchanged and ideas are shared, thus contributing to the world brotherhood of Scouting. Most of the communication takes place in a chat network called IRC, the Internet Relay Chat. At Bishops Waltham we will have several computers set up in the Scout Hut for use on JOTI throughout the weekend.
