Cubs Visit London Science Museum
Just before the end of term, Wolf and Diamond Cub Packs joined together for a very special sleepover; at the Science Museum in London. Twenty six Cubs, along with their leaders and helpers, boarded the train from Winchester station on Friday afternoon and took over half a carriage of the train to London. At Waterloo they walked across the Thames on the Jubilee Bridge seeing the sights on a bright sunny afternoon, before catching the tube to the Science Museum.
The evening at the Science museum was packed with events including making and firing rockets, taking part in a noisy science show, and racing around the galleries on a treasure hunt. There was even time to have an evening meal between all the activities.
Finally it was time to settle down for bed in sleeping bags amongst the exhibits of the Shipping Gallery. Unlike the recent film, the only things in the museum to spring into life at night were the Cubs! However, after a while even they fell asleep, allowing the leaders and helpers to catch a few minutes sleep themselves, just before the Cubs awoke at the crack of dawn!
The morning was just as active, packing away all their kit before racing down three flights of stairs for breakfast. Then there was time for an IMAX film and a chance to have a go at the hands on activities in Launchpad. That was the end of sleepover organised by the Science Museum but the Cubs stayed on to visit the shop (by popular request) and to explore some more of the museum.
Leaving the m useum they then had a picnic lunch next to the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park, followed by a game of cricket in the sunshine. Heading back to Waterloo by tube and foot, they stopped off by the London Eye to take photos and watch the living statues before catching the train to Winchester. Finally a pack of tired Cubs arrived back to be greeted by their parents.
