26th April 2009

St George's Day Parade 2009We had a lovely sunny Sunday for the Meon Valley Scout District St. George's Day Parade which was hosted by 1st Bishops Waltham Scout Group this year. This is the most important day of the year for Scouting and we had a good turnout from all the Groups.

Bishops Waltham High Street at St George's Day Parade 2009The parade started from Lower Lane and was led by the Romsey Old Cadets band through Bishops Waltham to the Palace Ruins.

At the ruins we had a short ceremony during which all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts, Explorers and leaders said their promise, and which finished with the National Anthem.

Flags at the palace ruins at the St George's Day Parade 2009Following the ceremony there were activities in the Palace grounds including making and firing paper rockets. Some of the best rockets flew much further than we were expecting and sailed high over the Palace walls.
