Scout Group activities in November 2009
Scouts
Gunners Scouts have been enjoying a variety of different activities this term, including cooking, hiking, acting and setting fire to things!
As part of their Global Challenge Award, the Scouts had an evening of cooking international cuisine. Split into small groups, they made a variety of dishes including chicken soup (real, home made; not just opening the can), fried aubergine and mashed sweet potato. They also attended a JOTA weekend, talking to other Scouts across the world by radio.
The Scouts celebrated bonfire night by making ballistas from sticks and bungees, and then testing their aiming skills by shooting flaming torches from them to ignite a bonfire.
Cubs
Wolf Pack Cubs have been working towards their home safety badge. They had a visit from the Police, who discussed with them the ways in which they can stay safe.
Cubs in Diamond pack are earning their Community Challenge Badge. They also did a “Scrapheap Challenge”, working in their Sixes to design and built cars out of junk. The completed cars were then raced down a track to see whose was the fastest, and which one would travel the furthest. Blue Six were victorious in both speed and distance!
Beavers
The Beavers have been doing their Friendship Challenge Badge. Hawkeye Beavers organised an evening of fun and games at Lyons Copse and invited Malik Beavers to join them. Both Colonies enjoyed meeting and making new friends.
The Beavers have also been learning about Diwali. They made decorative tea light holders and created sand drawings, and finished off by tasting some Indian cuisine
